A 24-year-old man has died after crashing the motorcycle he was on into a power pole in Invercargill.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Watt Road, Otatara, about 10pm.
Police earlier said the man sustained critical injuries, but later confirmed he died.
The Serious Crash Unit are completing a scene examination. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Motorists are also being told to expect delays after a serious crash involving two trucks on SH1 north of Hamilton this morning.
A police spokesperson told 1 NEWS initial reports suggested one person was trapped in one of the trucks.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash, which happened between Meremere and Mercer, at about 7.40am.
A helicopter is now at the scene.
The crash is blocking southbound lanes near Island Block Rd.
