Death of baby in Whakatāne being treated as 'unexplained' by police

The sudden death of a baby in the Bay of Plenty town of Whakatāne is being treated as unexplained by police.

Police have confirmed to 1 NEWS they were advised of the infant's death this morning around 11am.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post mortem will take place in coming days," police say.
