After tasting defeat against the Crusaders in Wellington last weekend, the Hurricanes are now faced with the unenviable task of taking on the Highlanders in Duendin to re-ignite their Super Rugby season.

Falling 32-8 to the defending champions on Friday night, the Hurricanes will this week travel south to Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium, taking on the Highlanders under the roof.

Speaking to 1 NEWS today, Hurricanes utility back Jordie Barrett explained why facing the Highlanders on their own patch was such a challenge, playing at New Zealand's only indoor rugby stadium.

"Glass house, dry ball, big crowd and some quality players," Barrett said.

"They'll be tough this week.

"The positive for the Highlanders is they play there every home game, so they know how to play inside that stadium, and they can use that to their advantage.

"What we've got to do is go down there and trust our own game, find out what's working early in the game and just stick to that."

The Hurricanes have already beaten the Highlanders once this season, with a close fought 25-22 win, Barrett however is expecting a reaction from the Dunedin side.

"It'll be a lot harder.

"Last year we went down there [to Dunedin] confident, and we didn't come away with a win.

"They're always tough in Dunedin."
