It's been a horror 24 hours on our roads with five deaths and multiple people injured.

A teenage driver who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal car crash north of Auckland last night will appear in court tomorrow facing drink driving charges.

Two people were killed on State Highway 1 at Topuni in Northland just before 9pm.

Two others, including a child, were injured.

Police are also investigating another deadly crash in South Taranaki where two people died in a single car crash near Hawera just after 8pm.

Late this afternoon a motorcyclist has died following a crash in Brightwater near Nelson.
