All Blacks unveil environmentally-friendly kits made from recycled plastic

April 1, 2019

The All Blacks are doing their bit to help out the environment after unveiling their new training jerseys which will be made from plastic found in the ocean.

The jersey is part of a new partnership between the team's apparel maker Adidas and environmental organisation Parley - a group that focuses specifically on protecting oceans.

As a result, the jerseys are made of Parley Ocean Plastic, meaning plastic which has been intercepted from the ocean has since been upcycled and woven into the fabric.

It comes after several All Blacks went for an educational session with Parley ambassadors to Motuihe Island, a New Zealand Department of Conservation wildlife and nature reserve in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf, last year.

Beauden Barrett said the experience was eye-opening.

"The boys were incredibly inspired by their visit to Motuihe and wanted to make a change.

"The Adidas x Parley partnership is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something special and it's good to know that we are playing a small part in highlighting the devastation that plastic is causing the oceans."

The training kits feature a special hoop graphic based on a breaking wave to link the jersey to the environmental effort.
