Body found in Heathcote River, Christchurch

A police guard is in place after a body was found in the Heathcote River in Christchurch last night.

Police say a man's body was located in the river at about 7.20pm.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Worner said police are awaiting the results of a post mortem in order to establish the cause of death.

A scene guard is in place until further notice.
