Some parts of New Zealand are now officially experiencing a heat wave, as the warm weather from across the Tasman has led to sustained above average temperatures.

According to the MetService, "inland Bay of Plenty (Kawerau), inland Wairarapa (Masterton), Blenheim in Marlborough and inland parts of Canterbury Plains (Cheviot and Culverdon) have all seen a heat wave."

The heat wave saw Kawerau reach a 34C at 4pm on Tuesday, while Hurunui topped the list today with 37.3C.

Fortunately for those struggling to sleep down south cooler weather is set to arrive tomorrow before spreading north on the weekend.
