Former All Black Zac Guildford has quit playing rugby in France, stating his reasons for doing so was to do with his family.
Guildford took to Instagram to announce the news, saying he had left ProD2 leaders Nevers after joining the club last month.
"Before any second hand rumours come out, there were no incidents," Guildford wrote.
"I just have to do this for myself and my family to better my future."
The 29-year-old has played 10 games for the division two side this season, scoring three tries.
"It's not the way I wanted things to be, but I'd like to thank everyone in Nevers for the support and opportunity, especially the president [Régis Dumange].
"So grateful for the understanding of the club that I need to be with my family at this time."
Guildford has had a troubled career thanks to well-documented issues with alcohol and mental health which saw his All Blacks career effectively ended in 2012 when he was just 23 and had 11 Tests to his name.
The winger's Super Rugby contract with the Crusaders was terminated in 2014, leading him to journey to France the following year to play for French club Clermont.
However, the venture quickly ended when he quit the same year and returned to New Zealand for "personal reasons".
He was given another lifeline by the Waratahs in 2016 but left the NSW club after seven games and settled playing grassroots level rugby for Wairarapa Bush.
Guildford took one final crack at making Super Rugby but after he failed to secure a contract last year, he moved to play at Nevers in central France.
