Aucklanders set a water consumption record yesterday during one of the hottest days this summer.
According to Watercare, Auckland residents "drank or used a record 524 million litres of water yesterday― 20 million litres more than the previous record set on 14 December, 2017."
Watercare say they worked to supply more treated water, so that no taps ran dry: producing a mammoth 530 million litres ―six million litres ahead of demand.
Watercare has also offered some top tips on how to stay cool during the heatwave while also using less water.
An official reading from Whenuapai Airport recorded temperatures hovering just over 30C between 3pm and 4pm yesterday afternoon.
Unofficial readings provided by members of the public to MetService yesterday saw many places in Auckland comfortably over the 30C mark, with a temperature of 35C recorded in Forrest Hill on the North Shore.
The hot weather is expected to last until at least Friday.
