Toxic smog in Bangkok has forced more than 400 schools to close to protect children from its harmful effects.

It is made up of ultra-fine dust particles and experts say it is the worst ever case of air pollution Thailand’s capital has ever seen.

The Thai government has tried reducing the smog by seeding rain clouds and regulating traffic, but authorities efforts so far have failed.

Traffic exhaust, construction works, burning crops and pollution from factories are blamed for the haze.

According to The World Quality Index project, Bangkok’s Air Quality Index is currently around 170, making it unhealthy.
