New Zealand's week of warm weather may be rounding to an end, with temperatures looking to drop off after today.
Blenheim is is forecast to be the hotspot again today, with the temperature expected to be in the mid-thirties by mid-morning. The top temperature is tipped to be 34 degrees Celsius.
However, tomorrow it'll drop to 30C then 21C on Saturday.
Tomorrow a front is expected to move across the South Island, dragging some cool weather with it. MetService says we should see a noticeable change, with weather returning to normal temperatures. It’ll then head north, bringing some reprieve to North Islanders on Saturday.
The cooling temperatures are expected for most of the country, with Alexandra dropping 10C from 33C today to 23C tomorrow. The temperature is forecast to be 22C on Saturday.

In the North Island, the hotspots again today are Te Kuiti, Masterton and Taumaranui – all above 33 degrees. But all will drop into the 20s by for the weekend.

The hottest place overnight was Palmerston North, which did not drop below 22C.
The average overnight temperature across the country was 20C.
An official heatwave is five consecutive days of weather 5C above the average.
