A motorcyclist has died after a crash involving a tractor and motorbike near Rotorua today.

The crash occurred on State Highway 36 between Gloucester Road and Tauranga Direct Road in Ngongotaha at 5.20pm.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

The road is closed and diversions are in place on Central Road and Jackson Road with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.

The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene.
