One person dead, stretch of SH1 closed, after a crash near Timaru

One person has died after a crash between a car and a large truck north of Timaru.

The crash happened 5 kilometres north of Timaru in Levels at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Acacia Drive.

Police were notified of the crash at 7.10am.

One kilometre of SH1 is closed between Hedley and Lynch roads, with diversions in place.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
