Daniel Vettori facing the axe as coach of Brisbane Heat - report

Daniel Vettori's position as coach of the Brisbane Heat appears under threat, with the Brisbane Courier Mail reporting that the former Black Caps captain is battling to keep his job.

Having finished seventh of eight teams in last season's competition, Vettori's Brisbane Heat are again languishing towards the bottom of the Big Bash League, sitting second to last with four regular season matches left to play.

In a report from the Courier Mail, it is claimed that Queensland Cricket - the Heat's governing body - are looking to implement the same coaching structure that the Queensland Bulls have as full time coaches, rather than a specialist Twenty20 set-up.

Queensland Cricket CEO Max Walters said that a review will be conducted at the end of the current Big Bash League campaign.

"We'll be talking to the players and coaching staff about how they see things.

"It certainly won't be a witch hunt, that's not the way we do things. It will be a full download on where we can go from here and improve performance.

"We think the players have got the ability. Every time you write the team down you think it's a pretty good team.

"There are other teams with players of not great stature in the game, but they seem to get the job done."

The news comes after Vettori has already lost other high profile Twenty20 jobs - sacked as coach of both the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and English county side Middlesex in the past 12 months.

Vettori's current deal with the Brisbane Heat runs out at the current season, having been with the Heat as both a player and coach since 2011.
