A death in Opotiki, in the Bay of Plenty, in 2016 is now being treated as a murder by police.
Brian Albert Hilton, 77, died after suffering serious injuries in his home after what was believed at the time to be a fall.
He was admitted to Tauranga Hospital on July 7, 2016 with facial injuries and died six days later.
Police reopened the case after receiving new information, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen, Eastern Area Manager of Investigations, said.
"Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are absolutely determined to hold the person who committed this extremely serious crime to account, and bring this case to a conclusion," Mr Standen said.
