A central Christchurch car park building is set to come alive again with cyclists racing each other up its eight floors to a party on the roof, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for men’s health and Movember.
It is also the only southern hemisphere event in a global series.
Held for the first time last year, the unique inner city urban event features 100 cyclists competing in a series of rapid fire head to head races, with competitors riding up through a wall of sound provided by several thousand spectators - fuelled by a DJ and a festival atmosphere.
"It's just such a unique urban event and it is so good for the central city; you get amazing views from the top floor of the SALT District Carpark," said race organiser John McKenzie.
"It's a men's health Movember fundraiser so we hope to raise awareness about men's health issues and raise a good amount of money for Movember.
"What's really great about this event, is that it is happening in central Christchurch in a carpark building that is unique, when we are turning an eight storey carpark building into a pretty unique venue."
Pro cyclist for Trek Racing Team Alex Frame told 1 NEWS the course has it's own set of challenges.
"It's just super technical, it's really fast it's a sketchy little surface and a few guys crashed last year, which made it super exciting for the spectators," said Frame.
"It's something new for this type of bike racing and it's right in the urban city, looking over all the bars and restaurants out this way."
The event beat international rugby, rugby league and hockey events, taking out the Nexia New Zealand Sports Event of the Year at the 2018 Canterbury Sports Awards in March.
The event begins tomorrow at 12pm.
