An additional 13 charges were filed against various people over alleged race-fixing in the harness racing industry on Wednesday.

One new person, who is understood to be employed in the industry, was also charged as a result of Operation Inca, a year-long probe in to race-fixing in the industry, NZ Harness News reported.

“Police have laid a further 12 charges against current defendants, all in relation to match fixing,” Detective Inspector Stu Mills told The Informant.

“As well as that, one charge has been placed on a new defendant, that person is known in the industry.”

The defendants are due in the Christchurch District Court on December 5, Detective Inspector Mills said.

Further charges were also possible.

“We are continuing to interrogate people and inquiries are ongoing,” Detective Inspector Mills said.

A dozen people were arrested and charged as a result of Operation Inca in September.

Many were charged with race fixing while a number were also charged with drugs or weapon offences.
