One person dead, three injured after head-on crash in Bay of Plenty

One person is dead and three others have been injured after a head-on car crash in the Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

Police say a car and a ute collided at the intersection of Bell Road and SH2, near Nukuhou, at around 4.40pm.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS one person has been killed in the accident.

Three others have been hospitalised with various injuries.

Traffic is backing up and motorists are asked to avoid the area, until diversions can be put in place if able.
