Immigration New Zealand have launched an investigation into the residency application of Czech drug smuggler Karel Sroubek.
It comes after the Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway received new information yesterday that contradicted that which he used to make his decision to grant residency.
"This is new information that potentially is available."
He said it was "unverified", but he was seeking verification on the information.
Mr Lees-Galloway said for legal reasons he could not go into details, as it was "important that the investigation is able to occur without any prejudice".
Mr Lees-Galloway wanted a report back "in three weeks, if they can do it sooner than that, then I'd certainly encourage them to do that".
"I have instructed them to make this their top priority."
