The race for Warriors playmaker Shaun Johnson’s signature has already begun with the Raiders reportedly putting together an offer.
The New Zealand Herald reports the Canberra NRL club is already looking to add Johnson to their ranks less than a week after Warriors boss Cameron George said he was in "no rush" to submit an offer.
The report comes with the November 1 deadline now passed, meaning Johnson, along with other off-contract players, can talk with other clubs about new deals.
Johnson, who has been with the club since 2011, still has one year left on his contract which means he would need an early release from the Warriors to leave before then.
The 28-year-old re-signed with the Warriors last year in April with a marquee deal worth $1 million a season, making him the highest paid player at the club.
However, the club appears to no longer view Johnson as the cornerstone with inconsistency in his week-to-week performances still an issue after seven years in the NRL.
"We want to ensure that anyone that we sign is the right person for our club firstly," George told 1 NEWS.
"We're not just willy-nilly signing any player, any staff member. We're ensuring that their attributes are the right ones to carry us forward.
"Shaun's included in that.
"Shaun's a highly valued member of our squad, and he carries a lot of PR - that's why there's some headlines floating around there at the moment.
"We'll do what's right for the club and our fans first and foremost."
