Delighted Wellington school children have had a once in a lifetime experience getting up close and personal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Government House this afternoon.
The royals stopped to speak to some of the children after they were invited to hongi with the Governor-General’s Kuia and Kaumātua before a pōwhiri, which included a passionate haka anad a 21-gun salute.
The children could be seen smiling and laughing with Prince Harry and Meghan during the meeting.
In one instance, the Prince could be seen slowly walking past the children before turning back to speak with one of them.
A group of children, who had travelled down from Kairanga School in Palmerston North, said that Meghan told them she was really cold.
Minnie Newman, 11, from Kelburn Girl Guides, said the couple asked what the best thing was about guides, and she replied that she got to do lots of amazing activities.
"I love her dress and she was really pretty," Minnie said. "She seems really nice and kind and would be good for royalty."
Greta Crowe, 11, said she answered that the best part of guides was getting to meet the royals, to which Prince Harry responded: "What, waiting around at Government House in the cold?" before the couple both laughed.

Next, the royals will be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior before visiting the newly-unveiled UK War Memorial at the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park.
