Watch: Sheep filmed 'surfing' transport truck on Auckland motorway - 'How'd it get up there?'

October 1, 2018

A sheep which somehow managed to get on top of a truck on Auckland's Southern Motorway yesterday has hit the headlines after video of the incident was captured by amused motorists.

Ellerslie resident Ada Rangiwai told Stuff.co.nz she was shocked to see the "surfing" farm animal in such a predicament.

"I don't understand how the sheep got on the roof," she said.

"There must have been a hole in the roof and it climbed on its mates."

Ms Rangiwai said the strange incident was at around 5pm yesterday near the Takanini turn off.

The truck, which is owned by Heikell Transport, pulled over on the motorway with its hazard lights on to deal with the issue after the driver was informed by passing traffic, Ms Rangiwai believes.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said there were no reports of traffic problems caused by the incident.
