A driver speeding at 146km/h in an 80km/h zone at the weekend has prompted a warning from Dunedin police for motorists in the city to slow down.
Police have told the Otago Daily Times the road policing unit was doing speed work on the Dunedin Southern Motorway around Barnes Drive, when the driver was caught doing 146km/h on an 80km/h stretch of the road heading towards a 60km/h zone.
Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson said there were "numerous others'' caught travelling more than 100km/h.
Police had also been getting reports of people driving quickly through roadworks around Dunedin, despite temporary speed limit signs, he said.
"Just be mindful that the speed limit for those things are there for a purpose for the people working in the area. It's endangering people," Mr Thomson said.
