Former Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has decided to remain in European rugby for at least another year after extending his contract with English club Bath for an extra season.

Blackadder signed a one-year contract extension which will see him stay at the club until at least June 2020.

The 47-year-old originally signed a three-year deal with Bath in 2016 before today's announcement but the club confirmed Blackadder will have the option to extend his contract beyond 2020 should the two parties come to an agreement.

"Todd has committed that he will move on when the club is ready," Bath boss Tarquin McDonald said.

As a result, the club also confirmed former Bath captain Stuart Hooper will become the former All Blacks captain's successor when he decides to leave.

"That readiness will be predicated on our next step, which will be when Stuart Hooper proves his readiness to take on the leadership of our rugby department."

Blackadder coached the Crusaders between 2009 and 2016 and despite consistantly reaching the playoffs during his tenure, never won a Super Rugby title in his time at the Canterbury franchise.
