A New Zealander has died in a horror bus crash in Africa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed to 1 NEWS.
The New Zealander was among nine poeple killed, including a toddler, after a tourist bus overturned in Qacha's Nek, Lesotho.
Two other Kiwis were injured.
The New Zealand High Commission in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, is providing consular assistance to the New Zealanders and their families following the incident.
The crash happened on 21 Sept, and the bus driver was arrested several days later, according to South African news website IOL.
"As the process of intensive investigations by the police was unfolding, especially on the possible cause of that accident, he then disappeared following his discharge from hospital and fled towards the Beit Bridge port of entry," police said in a statement, according to the website.
MFAT has not yet provided information on the identities of the killed and injured New Zealanders.
