Terenzo Bozzone's race is over.
The defending Ironman New Zealand champion is still struggling from injuries suffered in a crash in July and despite two weeks training in Kona, has confirmed he won't compete at the World Championships.
"The last year has been great with two Ironman victories under eight hours," he said.
"So the goal going into Kona this year was to fight for a podium spot. Unfortunately the reality is that I'm just not well enough."
Kiwi rival Cameron Brown admits he’s disappointed for his compatriot.
"It's been a hard road to recovery for him and he probably just hasn't had enough time to get ready for the race and you need to be ready for a world championship."
It's understood Brown’s campaign towards Hawaii has been relentless.
He leaves for the US tonight having had a strong build up in Queensland.
At 46, Brown will incredibly lace up the shoes at another world championships - 18 years after his first.
