Hit-and-run leaves Tasman pedestrian in serious condition, police later find car ablaze

Two pedestrians were taken to hospital by air ambulance overnight after being hit by a car in Motueka, Tasman.

The men were crossing York Street at about 2am when they were struck, according to police. 

One man remains in serious condition, while the other suffered moderate injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.

The car believed to be involved in the crash, a green Subaru station wagon, was later found on fire on Old Wharf Road, police said.

York Street is currently closed for further investigation.

Motueka Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the incident, or who might have information about the identity of the driver, to contact them at 03 528 1220.
