Police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who allegedly stabbed a male roadside preacher in the neck during a violent attack on Pitt St in the Auckland CBD on Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 3pm, a man allegedly verbally abused a man preaching on Karangahape Road outside St Kevin's Arcade.
The victim had asked the man to stop before walking around the corner to Pitt St.
Approximately five minutes later, the man allegedly confronted the preacher and his friend near the Methodist Church car park and stabbed him in the neck, causing significant injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed this attack or the incident on Karangahape Road, or recognises the man from the CCTV footage.
"This was a violent attack where the actions of the offender far outweighed the minor altercation that lead to the attack and he needs to be held to account. We urge anyone who witnessed either incident, or recognises the man in the image to contact police immediately," said Detective Senior Sergeant Lloyd Schmid.
The condition of the victim is not known.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Auckland City Crime Squad on (09) 302- 6557 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
