A crowdfunding campaign in the North Otago town of Kurow wants to see former All Blacks legend Richie McCaw in statue form.
With Kurow being McCaw's home town, the Waitaki Valley Community Society has set up a Givealittle page, hoping to raise the $175,000 to fund a bronze statue of the two-time Rugby World Cup winning captain.
"Richie continues to serve the nation as a skilled helicopter pilot. At times serving in difficult circumstances," the page says.
"The Kurow community is keen to honour this rugby great. He is a terrific role model, showing how great dedication leads to great success.
"We invite you to assist in erecting a statue to honour him in the rural community where his rugby career began."
If completed, the statue would stand at 2.4m high, with the base at 1m high.
