Despite last month's heroics in helping the All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup, lock Brodie Retallick isn't getting carried away with his string of incredible performances.

Retallick, 27, made his return to the All Blacks in Sydney last month, having missed the end of the 2017 season for personal reasons.

His return was nothing short of phenomenal, however, named man of the match for his display in helping the All Blacks to a 38-13 win.

Speaking to media in Nelson ahead of the All Blacks' clash with Argentina at Trafalgar Park this week, Retallick refused to be drawn into praise for his personal displays against the Wallabies.

"It's just one performance," he said.

"Often individuals get accolades, but it's the result of hard work from the whole team.

"Sydney was two weeks ago, the Test this week's a big difference, that's all I'm looking forward to."

Retallick also played down suggestions that his Sydney display was the 'perfect' game.

"I don't know if it was 'perfect', I threw a couple of balls to Beaudy (Beauden Barrett) that didn't quite reach him.

"There's always something you want to be better at and working on, it was definitely good to be back out there and playing Test match rugby, but it's still a work on."

Retallick and the All Blacks will be in action against Argentina on Saturday night in Nelson.
