The Government has announced the the completion of the first KiwiBuild homes at a development in Auckland.
The finished 18 KiwiBuild homes at the McLennan development in Papakura will be sold through a ballot which runs for four weeks and opens on September 10.
A statement released today says they are 18 warm, modern and architecturally-designed stand-alone homes, made up of 12 three-bedroom homes selling for $579,000 and six four-bedroom homes selling for $649,000.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phil Twyford said these first modest, starter homes were an important milestone in the Government’s plan to restore the dream of homeownership for Kiwi families.
"Our very first KiwiBuild homeowners will wake up this Christmas in their own homes and will soon be joined by many others as KiwiBuild ramps up over the months and years ahead.
"A further 12 properties are under construction at the McLennan development and will be completed before Christmas, including seven terraced two-bedroom homes and five four-bedroom homes.
"I can also announce today that next year, another 58 KiwiBuild homes will be built at McLennan, the majority of which will be three-bedroom.
"In the coming weeks I’ll be unveiling details of KiwiBuild developments in Waikato, Taranaki, Auckland and the Queenstown-Lakes area."
The Government says KiwiBuild is on track to build 1000 homes in the first year, ramping up to 5000 homes by June 2020 and 10,000 homes by June 2021, he said.
