While the majority of the thoroughbred industry are praising yesterday's report into New Zealand racing, two other codes appear to have been left in the dark.

With the changes recommended by John Messara's findings seeming to revolve around reviving the ailing galloping code, both harness and greyhound racing appear to have been left behind.

Messara's 81-page report addressed the "deeply distressed" state of thoroughbred racing in New Zealand, however, little attention is paid to the other two codes, with harness racing mentioned just 15 times, greyhound only 12.

Speaking to 1 NEWS, Harness Racing Chairman Ken Spicer lamented the findings, pointing out his code was in just as much trouble as thoroughbred.

"Harness racing is not far away from where they are, so don't think we're tracking that well either, we're in the same boat," he said.

Perhaps the most concerning recommendation in Messara's report sees the suggestion of the redistribution of betting funds, seeing a greater increase in revenue headed towards gallops.

It comes after the biggest ever review of the billion-dollar industry. (Source: Other)

"(I) sort of struggle with the concept that we're going to be better off," Spicer added.

"But they're going to change the maybe that formula which. We're going to have to look at that."

Yet for all the strife endured by the harness and greyhound codes, the report comes as a relief to those whose livelihood revolves around thoroughbreds.

"It's very promising, everyone knows that we're sailing a sinking ship, that gives me a you know real hope," Kiwi trainer Stephen Marsh said.

"I just hope dilly dally around, we get it through, this is the way forward."

Te Akau stud director David Ellis concurred, saying that: "Everybody in the industry is now ready for change, they understand that it has to change for us to have any future going forward."
