August 31, 2018

A Canadian man has been charged after demolishing a Tesla that he launched 30 metres off railway tracks during a high-speed joy ride that was captured on CCTV.

Police from Barrie, a city north of Toronto, said in a statement that they located a demolished four-door Tesla at just after 8.30pm on Tuesday (local time).

The vehicle had been travelling at high speed and had become airborne and crashed over 30 metres (100 feet) into the opposite lane before skidding into a tree, police said.

CCTV footage showed the car hit the tracks and fly past an adjacent carpark before people run in the direction of the car.

The driver and passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 46-year-old man will appear in a Barrie Court of Justice on October 1.
