Blues prop Ross Wright has sacrificed a lot to pursue his career in rugby, with the 31-year-old giving up a lawn mowing business to play Super Rugby.

Wright has played over nine years for NPC side Northland and finally made his debut for Auckland in Super Rugby this year against the Lions.

"I didn't really give it away it was something at the time it just sort of died down," said Wright.

"I sort of concentrate on the rugby a bit more, kept all the gear for myself so I can still mow my lawn."

The Taniwha front rower said playing for the Blues was always a goal of his.

"Growing up as a little fella you know you sort of watch a lot of players from even up North and that playing for the (Blues) jersey and you want to be there one day.

"For me to be there it is pretty much a dream come true."

He was also named in the All Blacks Maori squad that toured the northern hemisphere.

Wright has played seven matches for the Auckland franchise and has been named to start at loose head prop against the Waratahs this Saturday.
