All Black first-five Lima Sopoaga is continuing his Twitter banter with NBA veteran JR Smith after taking credit for the Cleveland Cavalier's strong performance in Game One of the Eastern Conference semi-finals yesterday.
Smith scored 20 ppoints in the 113-112 overtime win over the Toronto Raptors, shooting five-for-six behind the three point line in the process.
Prior to the game, Sopoaga mocked Smith for his sub-par performances and relying on superstar teammate LeBron James for getting the team this far in the playoffs.
Smith posted an image of a van full of money on his Instagram, asking: "You and your child are driving late at night along a deserted road. You come across a van full of money with the driver dead from an apparent heart attack. What lesson do you teach your child?"
Sopoaga seized the opportunity at the time to take a pop at Smith, commenting: "Daddy will all this money buy you a jump shot to help LBJ in the finals?"
Smith was not impressed by the burn. He replied: "Who are you? Again?"
Then Smith went and put his money where his mouth is and delivered a game-changing three-pointer in overtime to help the Cavs take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The Highlanders star believes his words helped fire up Smith and took credit for the performance.
"Hey JR Smith you can thank me now uso. #MotivationFromNZ," Sopoaga tweeted.
"Just a bit of a push to help the bro out."
Smith, who next plays on Friday afternoon NZT, has yet to reply.
