A Kiwi man has gone missing after he went swimming from a yacht anchored off the coast of Malaysia.
The man is reported to be a 63-year-old crew member of the yacht he went swimming from which was anchored one nautical mile off Jason Bay Beach near the town of Tanjung Sedili, according to a report by The Sun Daily.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Southern Region deputy director (Operations), Maritime Capt Sanifah Yusof said the man was reported missing at about 3am today (6am NZT).
Mr Yusof said a rescue operation was launched immediately after they were notified about the disappearance by a friend of the missing Kiwi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told 1 NEWS: "The New Zealand High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is liaising with local authorities regarding a New Zealander missing at sea in Malaysia.
"The Ministry is in touch with the missing person’s family and is providing consular assistance."
