Police are asking for public help to trace a man children have reported seeing naked in bushes in the West Auckland suburb of Te Atatu.
A woman altered parents and caregivers on the Te Atatu Peninsula Facebook page yesterday afternoon, saying her niece and nephew were walking home from Peninsula Primary School when they saw a man hiding naked in a flax bush "watching the school kids as they pass by".
She wrote that the man was maybe 45-65 years old, skinny with brown hair and that he had no clothes on.
"The kids ran home traumatised which may have startled him as when we went out to find him he had gone and another young boy on the street said they 'saw a man running away with only his bum on'."
The woman warned people to be aware "there are perverted, disturbing humans out there," and said "we are lucky nothing happened to our kids".
Waitemata Police say they received a complaint yesterday afternoon from a member of the public whose nine-year-old daughter had reported that a man had exposed himself to her as she walked home from school.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Wakaroa Avenue in Te Atatu Peninsula and was reported to police at 3.40pm, said Detective Sergeant Murray Free.
Police conducted area enquiries but unfortunately did not locate the man, he said.
The police are now asking any members of our community who have information which can assist them to contact Henderson Police Station on 09 839 0600.
Police also urge anyone to call 111 immediately if they witness any suspicious activity.
