Counties Manukau Police have launched a homicide investigation following an incident this morning where a 28-year-old male was located deceased in Mangere.

Police are currently at the scene in Greenwood Rd, Mangere.

Police were notified around 6am that two people were lying on the ground on Greenwood Road.

The man was found dead at the scene, and the woman has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition with gunshot wounds.

A woman who works nearby says it’s an apparent shooting.

"It seems like a shooting, mate,” Sarah Davis told 1 NEWS.

"They’ve blocked off the road so nobody can go down… they’ve got police all round our street.

"When I got into work this morning at about 4 o’clock….. probably about quarter-past-four this morning that’s when I heard the police, the ambulance and helicopter," Ms Davis said.

A cordon will remain in place today on Greenwood Rd while staff carry out a scene examination and a forensic analysis of a vehicle located at the scene.
