Search for man missing after car found in Coromandel Peninsula called off

The search for a man missing after a car was found in a river in the Coromandel Peninsula has been called off for tonight.

The car was empty when it was found off Hikuai School Road, near the Tairua River, at 6pm.

The registered owner of the car was reported missing after leaving a friend's house at 5.30pm today.

The search will resume at 7am tomorrow.
