April 29, 2018

New Zealand’s female 49ers crew has won gold as part of a Kiwi medal haul at the World Cup regatta in France overnight (NZT).

Alex Maloney and Molly Meech won gold in the 49er FX with Logan Dunning Beck and Oscar Gunn claiming silver, and Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey claimed bronze in the 49er class in Hyeres.

The New Zealand team are in contention for more medals tonight with Sam Meech sitting second heading into his medal race in the Laser fleet.

Maloney and Meech rallied to win their race having started the day in second position.

"We went into today trying to win the race and letting everything play out behind us," said Maloney.

"We played the fleet fairly well and managed to win, which was a great feeling."

The result continues a great run of form from Maloney and Meech ahead of August's sailing world championships in Aarhus in Denmark.
