Missing people found, after failing to return from boating trip off Great Barrier Island

The two missing people who failed to return from a boating trip off Great Barrier Island yesterday have been found.

Police were called to the scene at 11.45am after the two people left the island after a fishing contest Friday night but didn't return the next morning.

The Police helicopter Eagle spotted the boat drifting north of Waiheke Island around 9.30am this morning before dispatching the Police boat Deodar. 

Senior Constable Peter Comer says it appears the boat had broken down and become adrift in heavy seas.

No one was injured and the boat is under tow back to Waiheke.
