Despite New Zealand’s glorious history, squash is often overlooked when it comes to who is making a splash on the world stage.

That could change in the coming weeks however, with the sport primed for a medal rush at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

In Joelle King and Paul Coll, New Zealand has two of the most in-form players in the world.

The latest world rankings have King back at her career-high world ranking of number four and Coll at nine, but perhaps more importantly, they top the Commonwealth rankings.

Coll told 1 NEWS’ Stephen Stuart the team was determined to make an impact.

"We have our own goals in camp and we're aiming for the top. We got two golds at the last world doubles championships, and with me and Joelle we've got good seedings and we've been training well the last five days coming into it.

"We're definitely looking for four medals, and hopefully four golds."

The pair are battling for gold in the singles, will pair up in the mixed doubles, while King will partner Amanda Landers-Murphy in the women's doubles, another firm chance of glory.

Coll's partnership with Campbell Grayson was seeded third, making them a chance of grabbing a medal as well.

"Obviously there's been talk of three golds for me, that's something I had as a goal, and I'm going to do everything I can to make that happen, but there's a lot of tough competitors in my way," King said.
