Man's dead body found ontop of train carriage at Port of Tauranga after falling from overbridge in unknown circumstances

A man's dead body has this morning been found on top of a train carriage at the Port of Tauranga, after he fell from an overbridge in the Whakamarama area.

It is understood the deceased 38-year-old man from Whakamarama landed ontop of the carriage and was carried on the train to the rail yards at the port.

Police said in a statement this afternoon they are uncertain of the circumstances that led to the 38-year-old man from Whakamarama falling from the bridge.

His body was found by staff unloading train carriages at the Port of Tauranga at around 6.40am today.

The man's death has been referred to the Coroner.
