Residents of the Karikari Peninsula in Northland were left flabbergasted today, as fish flung themselves out of the sea and onto the beach.

"Look at it!," resident Mary Jane Hutchinson exclaimed as she filmed the hundreds of live fish writhing on the shore.  

"Wow, do you believe it?!"

"Just jumping out of the water all along the beach - amazing."
