A person has been arrested over a double-fatal crash near Kerikeri in Northland late last night.
Police say a 22-year-old driver was arrested and has since been bailed to appear in Kaikohe District Court.
They say a vehicle travelling north on State Highway 10 is believed to have crossed the centre line and collided head on with a south bound vehicle.
Two of the four occupants of the south bound vehicle died at the scene. They were a 24-year-old man from Kerikeri and a 26-year-old man from Kamo, Whangarei.
"A Police officer travelling on SH10 came across the accident and immediately commenced CPR on the deceased driver but was unable to revive him, emergency services spent time providing first aid on the passenger but he passed away while still at the scene,"Wayne Ewers, Road Policing Manager, Northland says in a statement.
A 22-year-old male and a 20-year-old female were taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
A police investigation is underway.
