Post mortem of man, 29, fatally shot by police to take place today

The name of the 29-year-old man will not be released today say police, after he was fatally shot north of Auckland on SH1 yesterday morning. 

Police shot the man after he was said to have threatened police with a machete. He died from his injuries. 

Some members of the man's family still need to be notified of his death, say police. 

No officers have been stood down. 

The incident happened after an earlier car chase, during which the police helicopter was called in. (Source: Other)

"We're focused on ensuring they are being supported and that the appropriate welfare processes are in place for them, and we will not be pre-empting the findings of the investigations into this incident," police said. 

The man's post mortem will take place today.
