While its men's sevens team will hog the headlines, Fiji is confident its weightlifting squad has the goods to add to its medal tally at the Commonwealth Games.
For many competing, it's a good chance to get to grips with international expectations.
Chef de Mission Patrick Bower said after years of financial and political strain, the Pacific nation was looking forward to competing on an even footing on the Gold Coast.
"The main goal for Fiji, having been out of the international circuits through lack of funds for whatever reason, we're coming back into the circle, it's an opportunity to see what high level competition would be like," he told 1 NEWS, after Fiji was officially welcomed onto the games village yesterday.
The Olympic champion sevens team was looking to claim a gold medal for the first time, but Mr Bower said it wasn't the only chance for Fijian glory.
Apolonia Vaivai was Fiji's only medal winner in Glasgow in the 75kg class, and was looking to go better at 69kg this time around.
Eileen Cikamatana was a big hope in the 90kg class, having set Commonwealth records in recent times.
Mr Bowman said the netball team was also looking to improve its world ranking.
"But I'd say our main hope is weightlifting," he said.
"And sevens, lest we forget."
