April Fool's Day sets up readers for a skeptical morning, and rightfully so. Here are some of the pranks various organisations pulled this morning.
Eden Park Trust announced this morning that Auckland's Eden Park are making an innovative new use for their hallowed turf by grazing a flock of 10,000 Perendales sheep on it.
CEO Nick Sautner said in the release: "We live and breathe sporting history here, day in and day out. That's the Kiwi spirit. But we also realise the meat industry is one of New Zealand’s biggest export earners and we want to be part of that to help our bigger plans for Eden Park come to life."
Eden Park, Auckland tweeted 6 hours later saying "New Zealand's national stadium is in safe hands and won't in fact be grazing sheep on our historic grounds. Happy April Fool's."
The University of Otago also put up posts on their Facebook and Twitter pages announcing that they gave the clocktower a new look after replace the old analog clock of yester-millenia with a new digital one.
"The University is excited to move with the times and have a campus clock that shows we are part of the digital age."
The Otago Daily Times has joined in on the fun by reporting that The Dunedin City Council is considering renaming Anzac Ave, Ed Sheeran Ave.
The report said a council spokesman said the $8350 mural was not enough.
