Man, 29, fatally shot by police after 'approaching officers with a weapon' on SH1, north of Auckland

A man, 29, has been fatally shot by police this morning near Pohuehue, north of Auckland, "after approaching officers with a weapon", say police. 

Police released a statement today saying first aid was applied but the man died at the scene.

The SH1 road is closed between Warkworth and Silverdale. 

Diversion are in place.
