Auckland Civil Defence to test sirens and alerts today

There is a potential marine and beach tsunami threat for NZ, Civil Defence warns.

If you’re in Auckland and hear tsunami sirens or an emergency alert today via text or email, don’t be alarmed.

Auckland Civil Defence is testing its public alert systems to make sure "they’re all in working order".

Those who are subscribed to alerts will receive test messages on text and email, Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management said.

ACDEM will also be posting test alerts to its Twitter account.

Civil Defence came under fire last October for accidentally sending out emergency mobile alerts in the middle of the night.

The alerts will take place around midday.
